MEET DR. J. MICHAEL GRUENWALD

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Gruenwald is a highly experienced Level 1 Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon with 25 years of experience. He was born and raised in Vienna, Austria and received his medical training at the renowned Vienna Medical School. Soon after completing his specialty training he joined the Orthopedic Department at the University of Arkansas Medical School. Dr Gruenwald successfully spent 25 years in academia which involved being the Orthopedic Trauma Director and the Vice Chairman of the Orthopedic Department at UAMC and was responsible for all orthopedic emergency admissions, surgeries, follow up and trained numerous UAMS orthopedic residents. He has also practiced in a private setting including a busy orthopedic group in Indiana where he enjoyed and maintained strong physician-patient relationships. He has performed thousands of high complexity orthopedic procedures with a proven track record of excellent outcomes. He has been named “Best Doctors in America” for 10 consecutive years while at the University of Arkansas. He has received multiple awards and has published extensively. As Chairman of the Governors Council he was a leading proponent of the highly successful Arkansas Trauma System, and Dr Gruenwald continues to teach nationally and internationally. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Orthopedic Trauma Association(OTA) and fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr Gruenwald is an avid photographer and spends many hours behind his telescope with astrophotography.
